My chest pounds as my forehead touches the prayer mat. I try to shut my eyes to concentrate but something makes them roll to the back of my sockets, so far back in my head that I can actually see myself think. And my thoughts, how my thoughts disgust me! Bodies enveloping one another, head after leg, arms slicing torsos like snakes eating their own tails. The wastage of the world in the flash of a memory, or worse, in the snapshot of a desire, a sordid seduction that my mind knows very well not to entertain.

I don't create theatre for you to feel comfortable. If you want a show that will relax you in to a comfort zone, I am not the practitioner for you. I have always been more interested in keeping things stark, highlighting the ugly and defacating on conventional notions of... 'joy' and 'happiness'. As artists, we do half the work. Intense choreography, cultured direction, gruelling performances - they all amount to only half of the magic that happens on stage. 

 

The other half is up to you.  

As a member of an audience, you have a very special privelege. You enter a shared space where you are welcomed to smile at heart-felt moments or scorn at flexed feet. One minute, you find yourself laughing at an over-the-top cosutme and, the next, experiencing pain that you may have never experienced before...
